Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Gas Fireplace Repair in Tampa: What to Know First
DuraFlex gas fireplace repair in Tampa typically runs $185 to $480 for most service calls, with the bulk of jobs completed in a single 60-to-90-minute visit. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider – not factory-affiliated, not a warranty center – and we give you a written price before any work starts, so there’s no guessing when the tech arrives. If you own a DuraFlex gas fireplace that’s acting up, this page covers what actually fails on these units, what it costs to fix here in Tampa, and how we handle the repair from the first call to the final test. Call (850) 790-3475 and a live person answers, day or night.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- DuraFlex Direct-Temp pilot assembly failures. The Direct-Temp line is common in Tampa condos and newer builds, and we see a recurring issue where the pilot lights but won’t hold. It’s almost always the thermopile (the small sensor that tells the gas valve “flame’s here, keep feeding gas”) losing millivolt output. The fix is replacing the pilot assembly or thermopile with an OEM DuraFlex part. A cheap universal thermopile sometimes works, but the millivolt rating drifts within a season on Direct-Temp units, so we don’t use them on this line.
- DuraFlex GS-Series intermittent ignition dropouts. Units from the GS line have a known quirk where they fire up, run for ten or fifteen minutes, then shut off and refuse to restart for an hour. In Tampa’s humidity, the cause is usually a micro-crack in the ceramic igniter insulator that opens when it gets hot. On a dry bench test it reads fine. We’ve caught this dozens of times with our inspection camera – it’s exactly the kind of thing a tech who doesn’t work on GS units regularly misses.
- DuraFlex DF-GH glass seam leaks and sooting. The DF-GH series uses a sealed glass front, and the gasket channel is shallow. After a few years of Tampa’s heat-cool cycles, the gasket compresses and air leaks into the burn chamber, which changes the air-to-fuel ratio and leaves black soot on the inside of the glass. You can wipe it off, but it’ll come back. We replace the gasket with fresh OEM material, re-seat the glass, and verify the seal with a water-level manometer test before we call it done.
- DuraFlex Venturi burner clogging from sulfur and mineral buildup. Tampa gas has a higher sulfur content than a lot of markets, and on DuraFlex vented log sets we routinely find the venturi ports crusted with white mineral deposits. The flame goes lazy and yellow, which throws off combustion and sets off CO alarms in smaller rooms. The fix is pulling the burner, cleaning the ports, and adjusting the air shutter to Tampa’s gas composition. This one’s a maintenance item as much as a repair, but we flag it because the symptoms show up fast here.
- DuraFlex Pro-Form flue collar alignment after installation shifts. This one’s specific to gas fireplace inserts that were converted from wood-burning fireplaces, which is a huge share of Tampa’s older housing stock – Hyde Park, Seminole Heights, Palma Ceia. If the Pro-Form flue collar wasn’t aligned perfectly at installation, ground settling or thermal expansion over a season or two causes a small gap at the joint. You won’t see it from the front. Our camera inspection finds it in about five minutes, and the repair is re-aligning and re-sealing the collar, not replacing the liner.

Our DuraFlex Gas Fireplace Repair Process
Here’s how a DuraFlex repair goes from your call to the walkthrough – no vague windows, no surprise charges.
- 1
Book the call with a live person. You call (850) 790-3475, tell us what the fireplace is doing (or not doing), and we schedule a tracked arrival window. You get a text with a live map once the tech is headed your way.
- 2
Diagnostic inspection, camera included. The tech does a full safety check – gas pressure, burner condition, venting, glass seal, pilot assembly – and puts a camera where you can’t see. Cory Mitchell runs a lot of these inspections himself, and he’ll show you exactly what the problem looks like on screen, not tell you to trust him on it.
- 3
Written price before anything is touched. After the diagnostic, you get a written quote. It covers the part, the labor, and any follow-up visit if the repair fails. You approve it or you don’t. No work starts until you say go.
- 4
The repair, using OEM DuraFlex parts where they matter. Pilot assemblies, glass gaskets, and flue collars get OEM DuraFlex components. We use quality aftermarket only where it’s functionally identical and won’t void your warranty – and we tell you which is which before we order anything.
- 5
Full system test. We run the unit through a complete ignition and burn cycle, check for gas leaks with a sniffer, and verify proper drafting. If we touched the seal or gasket, we test that too.
- 6
Photos and your written guarantee. You get before-and-after photos documenting the repair, a digital invoice you can pay from your phone, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails inside a year, we come back free.

FAQs
Yes, in most cases it can. DuraFlex warranties specifically exclude damage from unauthorized service or non-OEM parts. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a warranty center, but we install OEM parts where they matter and document everything with photos, which keeps your warranty intact. Call (850) 790-3475 if you’re unsure whether a repair is warranty-safe.
Most standard repairs – thermopiles, pilot assemblies, gaskets, burner cleanings – are done in a single visit, as long as we have the part. We stock the common DuraFlex components in our Tampa trucks because we know what fails most in this region. For uncommon parts, we’ll give you an exact timeline and a live ETA when they arrive.
Typical repairs run $185 to $480, with diagnostics at $95 – $140 credited toward the repair same day. The spread depends on which DuraFlex line you have and what failed. Every quote is written and approved by you before work starts. Call (850) 790-3475 for a free estimate.
If the firebox is structurally sound and the gas valve is functional, repair almost always wins on cost. A full replacement runs into the thousands; most DuraFlex repairs don’t touch $500. The exception is a cracked firebox or a gas valve with internal failure, at which point replacement becomes the honest recommendation. We’ll show you the camera footage that supports whichever direction the evidence points.
Sooting means incomplete combustion, and incomplete combustion means carbon monoxide at low levels you can’t smell. A weak pilot that keeps dropping out usually means the safety circuit is failing, and sometimes it takes the whole ignition lockout with it. It’s not an emergency to stop using it today, but it’s worth addressing before the first cold snap when every fireplace in Tampa gets fired up at once and service availability tightens. Call (850) 790-3475 and we’ll find the next open slot.
